OCS nu standaard met Windows Live koppeling

Iederen die beschikt over OCS Standard met Software Assurance heeft nu de mogelijkheid om OCS te koppelen met Windows Live Messenger. Waar eerder nog een aparte federation license voor Office Communicator moest worden aangeschaft is dit dus nu niet meer noodzakelijk.

Standaard kan niet zomaar tussen OCS en het Windows Live Messenger platform 'gechat' worden. Om dit te kunnen doen diende tot vandaag een zogenaamde federation licentie aangeschaft te worden. Per vandaag is die eis dus komen te vervallen. Aangezien de federation licentie aanzienlijke kosten met zich mee bracht (enkele tientjes per maand) komt hiermee dus een aanzienlijke kostenpost te vervallen.

Het voordeel van het inzetten van OCS 2007 / Communicator 2007 voor communicatie met Windows Live Messenger is dat 'informele' contacten in zakelijke omgevingen via OCS beheerd kunnen worden. Hiermee kan dus management gevoerd worden op de (on)mogelijkheden en eventueel registratie van gesprekken gedaan worden. Dit laatste is met name van belang in juridische situaties (bijvoorbeeld contractonderhandelingen via chat) of situaties waarin gesprekken tot conflicten kunnen leiden (denk aan onderwijs).

Office Communications Server Public IM Connectivity Update
The LCS Public IM Connectivity license has announced changes that provide IM/P federation to the MSN/Windows Live, AOL and Yahoo! public IM networks.

Starting July 1, 2009, the following licensing changes will be made –
The LCS PIC SKU will be renamed to Office Communications Server Public IM Connectivity (OCS PIC in the price list)
A PIC License will no longer be required for federation with Windows Live Messenger. Customers qualify for federation with Windows Live if they have Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Standard CAL or active SA on their current LCS/OCS license. Details on provisioning for Windows Live will be announced shortly.
Customers who want AOL & Yahoo federation will continue to purchase PIC licenses. Customers should only be sold 1 year subscriptions. Please do not sell 3 year subscriptions. You risk potential significant CPE issues as we are in the process of making changes to PIC which we hope to announce within the next quarter.
There is no price change related to the Windows Live announcement. We changed the price of PIC in December 2008 to mitigate CPE issues on pricing due to this change. The current price of PIC already reflects the Windows Live Messenger move.

Use the following guidelines regarding the purchase of Office Communications Server PIC licenses:
Customer wants - What to sell
Federation with Windows Live - Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Standard CAL or LCS/OCS CAL with active SA.
Federation with AOL & Yahoo! - Office Communications Server PIC license at the 1 year subscription – do not sell the 3 year subscription.
